NetEnt has remained one of the most-popular slots developers for years. They’ve created many hits, including Arabian Nights, Blood Suckers, Dead or Alive, Gonzo’s Quest, and Starburst.

Street Fighter 2: The World Warrior was set to become NetEnt’s latest smash hit. This slot, which revolves around Capcom’s Street Fighter 2: The World Warrior video game, offers revolutionary features.

Oddly enough, though, NetEnt has now pulled Street Fighter 2 off the market. Online casinos are no longer able to carry this slot any longer. I’m going to discuss why NetEnt made this curious decision along with if the game will be back.

What Is Street Fighter 2 Slot?

Street Fighter 2 is an online slot that features a 5×5 grid. Every round begins with 25 symbols dropping down to fill out the grid.

You form winning combinations by landing 4+ matching symbols in a horizontal or vertical cluster. Symbols from winning combinations disappear, thus allowing icons from above to fall into their vacant spots (a.k.a. avalanche wins).

The graphics in this slot are definitely a highlight. NetEnt fashioned the graphics to look just like the 1991 arcade game.

You can choose one of eight characters when playing. Your character will fight a challenger while the game is raging on.

Each chosen character influences which random features are available. For example, Chun Li can deliver between two and seven wild symbols. Another example involves E. Honda, who can place three wilds in the same reel.

Standard bets range from €0.20 and €700. The default RTP varies between 96.02% and 96.08%, depending upon which character you choose.

You can increase the RTR up to 98.7% when using “Insert Coin.” The latter lets you gamble after losing to a “boss” during free spins.

Insert Coin requires you to gamble part of your bonus winnings. The main benefit is that you have a stronger change to win money with the 98.7% RTP.

As for free spins, you activate this bonus when your selected fighter wins their bout. Your goal is to keep advancing through the ranks by defeating bosses and earning a bigger win multiplier.

You start by fighting Balrog (Level 1) and benefiting from a 2x win multiplier. M. Bison, who offers a 10x multiplier, serves as the final boss at Level 4.

Overall, Street Fighter 2 is one of the most-detailed slots I’ve ever seen. It boasts outstanding features and a unique level-up mechanism during the bonus.

It also provides interesting options beyond the standard bets. You can use Insert Coin to gamble part of your winnings following any losing boss fight.

NetEnt Takes Street Fighter 2 off the Market

I firmly believe that Street Fighter 2 was set to become a classic hit. It features several hallmarks of a great slot, including a famous theme, retro graphics, multiple bonuses, and uniqueness.

However, NetEnt has made the puzzling decision to pull Street Fighter II out of casinos. This game only lasted one week before it disappeared from the gaming world.

The Swedish developer cited “internal concerns” related to responsible gaming. They indicated that gamblers’ “staking behavior” has something to do with the matter.

That said, Street Fighter hasn’t vanished due to a glitch or other programming issue. It simply creates concerns over how players might bet irresponsibly.

At the time of this writing, you can still play Street Fighter 2: The World Warrior on NetEnt’s website. They offer a free demo version of the game. However, you can’t currently play it for real money at online casinos.

Leaked Email Explains the Odd Decision

A leaked email has been circulating that explains NetEnt’s decision to take Street Fighter off the market. Victor Melander, the company’s Head of Communication, notes that the developer wants to complete an internal investigation regarding the game.

We have identified a potential situation whereby player staking behavior could impact the intended gameplay experience on our recent release Street Fighter™️ II: The World Warrior Slot,” Melander notes.

“Please be assured that to date the game has been performing within the expected parameters in respect to the certified math model and RTP on a network level.”

Melander goes on to state that Street Fighter has indeed been disabled at all casinos. In the meanwhile, NetEnt will work on fixing the staking problem that has the company worried.

The email never specifically mentions what aspect could negatively affect players’ staking behavior. However, I imagine that the issue derives from two aspects:

  • The €700 maximum bet
  • Insert Coin, which lets you gamble bonus winnings after losing to a boss.

Many slots only let you bet up to €100 or €200. Therefore, Street Fighter offers an enormous maximum wager at €700.

Additionally, the average game doesn’t let you risk winnings from free spins. You’re normally only able to gamble regular payouts (if applicable).

NetEnt does give you the opportunity to wager bonus payouts. Considering that you don’t trigger the feature often, you’re taking on considerable risk by using Insert Coin.

Gaming World Loses a Great Slot

Street Fighter 2 was hotly anticipated long before its release. After all, it’s modeled after one of the most-successful arcade and Super Nintendo games of all time.

Those who eagerly awaited Street Fighter’s release weren’t disappointed. This slot more than exceeds expectations due to its quality graphics and features.

Assuming you’re a fan of the video game, then you’ll no doubt like Street Fighter 2: The World Warrior. You can even appreciate this slot if you haven’t played the video/arcade game.

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to gamble real money when playing Street Fighter. As mentioned before, it’s no longer available in online casinos.

NetEnt apparently doesn’t feel comfortable offering the slot in its current form. Since launching in 1996, they’ve always been one of the most-reputable developers.

NetEnt has achieved licensing in many gaming jurisdictions across the world thanks to its reputation. Therefore, they’d never want to do something that could jeopardize their standing with licensing jurisdictions or customers.

This developer believes that Street Fighter 2’s unique staking aspects currently aren’t suited for gamblers. So, they made the responsible decision to disable the real-money version.

Will Street Fighter 2 Be Back?

You might be sad that you can’t currently play Street Fighter 2: The World Warrior for real money. But the good news is that you may be able to enjoy it in the future.

Melander mentions as much in the leaked email:

Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience caused, and rest assured we are working hard to get this game back up and running for you as soon as possible.
Thank you for your understanding, and should you require any further information please reach out to your Account Manager.

No timetable is offered for when Street Fighter 2 will be up and running. The good news, though, is that everything sounds optimistic regarding the game coming back.

For now, you can visit NetEnt’s website and play a demo version. You may not get the same thrills when playing Street Fighter 2 for free, but you can at least see what it’s all about.

I have no idea on when the real-money game will be back. I’m guessing that NetEnt will have the issue fixed within 2-3 months at the latest.

Conclusion
